The Artist

Robert Shreve – International Award Winning Fine Art Master Photographer

Robert Shreve, a Master Photographer specializing in Contemporary Photographic Fine Art, travels extensively on a global level capturing nature’s beautiful scenery. He photographs hundreds of unique, challenging images that can be found scattered among the walls of collectors and enthusiasts.

THE EARLY YEARS

Growing up in the deserts of West Texas, Shreve began pursuing photography more formally the summer before his senior year of high school. After attending Texas Tech Photography School in the summer of 1979, he became one of the yearbook staff photographers for his high school shooting everything from sports action shots to portraits and candid shots.

Even though Shreve enjoyed his journey into the world of photography during high school, he decided not to continue to pursue it.  Instead, he attended college and graduate school to become a CPA, pursuing corporate work during his 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s with a heavy emphasis in mergers and acquisitions, real estate, oil and gas, and emerging software technology.

A REDISCOVERY OF A FORMER PASSION

While living in a world of numbers, Shreve began to explore other adventures and creative outlets.  In 2002, he earned his instrument rated private pilot’s license. He reacquainted himself with the photography world in 2005, picked up a digital camera, and started shooting.  He began traveling extensively all over the world. At the same time, he transitioned from shooting with film to digital photography and his eyes were opened to a whole new and colorful planet, to landscapes, and to nature.  Shreve saw beauty in the subtle nuances of each location and culture and began to capture it with his camera.

Before long, Shreve found himself immersed in equipment research and photography education, studying every great book and write up he could get his hands on. After 2005, he took his photography to the next level purchasing professional grade lighting and equipment, as well as the best cameras he could buy including Nikon, Canon, Leica, Hasselblad, and Phase One professional gear.

FINDING HIS PLACE

During the next few years, Shreve explored new genres in photography from lifestyle, to landscapes, stock, and bridal photography. After years of shooting, Shreve found that landscape and wildlife photography was his passion.  He continues to pursue this passion to this day as he travels the world to capture remote locations in timely light creating beautiful landscapes. The struggles he encounters include timing and departure from family to pursue these interests.

GOING ALL IN

Shreve has traveled a great deal of the United States, Mexico, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, China, SE Asia, Canada, Central America, Europe, Africa, and many other global destinations. He continues to travel extensively to find those moments of beauty and light in a world of landscapes and wildlife. Through his travels, Shreve has developed a heightened awareness of global issues and an interest in the preservation of the planet and its beautiful wildlife.  He is an advocate of the escalated global awareness of planet preservation.

The journey of the landscape photographer experience is one that most people rarely see. The landscape photographer is up early, works when everyone else is eating and sleeping, and hikes into dangerous unknown territory while often leaving with no resulting image. Shreve’s most known quote is, “Landscape photography encourages me to go places I otherwise might not ever go.” The award-winning landscape image is rarely out the back door of a resort, but typically in some remote, minimally traveled destination, or is the result of just plain luck in being in the right place at the right time.

Shreve recognizes that light, composition, drama, color, and presentation produce the finest fine art images. Central to all photography is the capture of light and its majestic way of illuminating a subject to please the viewer. Landscape photography is a life-long learning experience with knowledge gained from being in the field shooting, articles, books, sharing, workshops, and other photographers one meets along the way.

Shreve’s work has been recognized many times since 2012, and has won many International Awards. Known globally as “Tex” among the worldwide Fine Art photographic community, Shreve is well known within the International Landscape Photographers global alumni.
